Overview
Trentham Gardens is a large, multi-purpose visitor destination, combining historic gardens, woodland and a retail village. With a broad audience and evolving offering, the estate required updated, consistent signage to better reflect the brand and improve the visitor experience.

Design Focus
Working as part of a team, I contributed to the redevelopment of the estate-wide signage system. The existing signage was outdated and inconsistent, so the focus was on creating a more cohesive, modern approach that improved clarity while staying true to Trentham’s identity.

Signage & Wayfinders
I designed a wide range of signage, including directional, safety, planting and interpretive boards. A key part of the approach was introducing clear visual distinctions across different areas of the gardens, using colour and content themes to help visitors navigate more intuitively (e.g. history, nature and activity zones).
Typography, layout and information hierarchy were carefully considered to improve legibility for a broad audience, from children to older visitors.
Production & Delivery
Alongside design, I prepared artwork for print and supported the coordination of production, working to tight timelines to ensure signage was delivered and installed efficiently across the site.
Impact
The updated system created a more consistent and engaging on-site experience, improving navigation and better reflecting the Trentham brand today.
“Engagement and feedback from visitors and stakeholders alike has been excellent.”
James Gibson, Marketing Executive
